[Danny has made his way to the couch since having unlocked the door for Grimm, so the other won't have to go far to find him. A couch that he really needs to get around to replacing soon, given that there might still be a blood stain he missed when he had Gray attending to him on the couch a few days ago, but it's fine, he hates this couch anyway.
He's not wearing his ridiculous amount of layers since, you know, he needs to be able to check his bandages with ease, just the one shirt that's most sitting on his shoulders than with his arms properly through the sleeves, but it still provides some sense of decency so it's whatever. And Grimm has already seen the other scars on his chest anyway, so--]
Hey... um, thank you for coming. I have coffee if you want any?
[Grimm will likely have to go get it himself though from the kitchen's coffee maker, but at least the offer was made as his attention goes to the bouquet.]
Next to the couch is a good spot since it does brighten up his absolutely bland monochrome apartment. Grimm is also welcome to sit with him here on the couch too, of course, as Danny gets a look at the flowers here.]
What kind of flowers are they?
[He's only familiar with super common ones like roses and maybe tulips (take a wild guess why tulips), but it's still something of curiosity to him whenever he does see bouquets like these.]
No no, you can stay for a little while if you'd like.
[In fact being alone has mostly resulted in him staring at a wall or ceiling and hating every decision he's ever made when attempting to read becomes tiring, so this is a nice distraction from that at the moment.]
Hmm? Oh... I guess I like roses as much as anyone else does. I also think tulips are nice though... I read somewhere once that they're the kind you can give someone when you want to compliment their eyes.
[... Yeah, that's it, that's literally the only reason he likes them aside from how they look.]
Who, me? [At that, he laughs for some reason.] No way, my eyes are not complimentary--if anyone should be getting bouquets of tulips, I'd think it should be you, given how much more interesting your eyes are by comparison.
[Danny considers for a moment, before he decides he doesn't really have much left to lose at this point as he brings his right hand up to his right eye.]
Well, the truth is that I've always only had one working eye, ever since the day I was born. For whatever reason, my right one here just never developed. As a result, I've never known what it's like to be able to see with two eyes, and have had to hide my empty right eye with glass, or with an eye-patch when I was a kid and couldn't really afford any glass ones to use.
[There's more to it from here, but he'll start there and see what Grimm does with this information before he continues.]
Ha, of course. That, and having had a normal way of being treated growing up, depending on who you ask.
[Because he is certain that life would not have been as cruel, if he had not been born with this mistake.]
Back then... most people didn't take kindly to it. Other children would frequently beat me up when I went outside, or the neighbors would loudly gossip about how my mother shouldn't have given birth to me, if I was going to be an existence that embarrassed them like this. Even my father used to tell me that no one would want me around in comparison to other people, because my lack of an eye made me less useful than those with two eyes.
[An old memory comes to mind, remembering his initial excitement as a child thinking that he could use this chance to help other people with eye problems if he became an opthamologist... before his father shut it down by saying no one would hire a doctor with only one eye for that, sparking another fight between him and his mother.]
The only person who treated me kindly was my mother... but even then, she was very unhappy with it, constantly fighting with my father and other neighbors for their treatment of me, and being seen as a pariah by those blaming her as if it was somehow her fault as well that I was born with only one eye.

I'll see if I can get the door unlocked so that you can just let yourself in when you get here.

Danny? I brought something to brighten your abode.

Date: 2020-04-07 03:45 pm (UTC)Flowers are a traditional get-well gift where I hail from. Is it not the same for you?
[He has no idea what humans usually give each other when they're sick or injured, so he brought flowers to set next to the couch.]

I see you also brought a card?
