[Hm. Concern.

Grimm gives directions, and is waiting at the beach at the appointed place when Dave arrives. There's no one else around this area, so they can speak privately.]

What is this about, Dave?

[[He appreciates no questions asked instructions on how to get to where they're going. When he gets there and the question is asked, he shakes his head.]]

About five minutes if you're as good as you say you are.

[[Dave won't pull his sword, for a good many reasons.]]

C'mon, first move is yours since I've never seen you fight.

[He can't not ask, he's a concerned dad.]

Very well. Dance with me, my dear.

[He bows first, and then... Dave will soon learn that Grimm pulls no punches - his first move is four spurts of fire in the shape of dragons. Without time power usage, he'll probably get caught by at least one of them since he hasn't practiced this boss fight's patterns yet.]

[[He has right to be concerned, he is best dad and Dave even met one of his unbeknownsttohim brothers on a beach. For now, though, he's looking at the bow and not understanding it. He'll ask later.

Dave appreciates the first out of the box move to be a huge one, and even with super human speed, he certainly does get hit. Using time isn't what he wants. He's not exactly doing a great job of dodging.

With the hit he takes he puts one of his legs back to stop from getting pushed too far. Fire or not, he's going to get back in there. A quick recovery and he goes in for the obvious, a head on attack meant to be just as specific a move to get hit as possible. He's putting at least a little effort into it, but only the smallest bit.]]

[A good recovery. Dave is strong in his own right, and Grimm respects that. But Dave asked him to beat the hell out of him, and it would be insulting to hold back.

He teleports in a puff of red smoke, reappearing further away only to charge at Dave, aiming to hit him with an uppercut that's followed by another further burst of fire.]

[[Dave has had much more thrown at him than just one shot before and even if he's only halfassing his attempts, he's already finding himself wanting to try by the time he realizes Grimm phases out. Not only phases out but charges head long into Dave's vicinity.

The use of time, and of his speed isn't in his movements. Not this time, no. This time he lets every single hit carry him. The one that sends him knocked back and the other ones that, maybe if he dodged the fist, he could have dodged naturally. This isn't one of those times and he's on his ass back on the ground by the time he realizes that he didn't anticipate fire magic. Without giving himself any more time to recover, he pats out a small fire on his shoulder and readies himself at least one more time.

He's going to be bruised and beaten and Grimm just listening to know this is what he wants is enough for him.]]

C'mon old man, if you're gonna do it, do it right.

[[One of his hands wipes across his mouth and he spits to the side.]]

[He's clearly not trying to dodge. If Grimm had any doubts, that would be enough to tell him that he's fulfilling Dave's wishes.

Grimm's 'cloak' sinks into the ground, and reemerges as several spikes shooting up from underneath Dave's feet. No fire this time, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.]

[[The cloak thing is new, and Dave is looking to figure out what sort of fire cloaks do. Not only is it going to be badass to see, but it's going to be--

Dave knows better than to stand in the way of what looked like something trying to pierce out at him, that doesn't mean that the dodge attempt is competent since he hadn't started his defense right away. A pained growl later and Dave finds that there's barely a place to hide from those, one having run up the side of his forearm and the other having hit him on its way up past the plate of his shoulder and one other he couldn't dodge that grazed his leg.

It makes him kneel down. Once he's seen his own blood, it's enough.]]

Jesus christ.

[[He's speaking with a soft pant to his voice, the spikes were the most painful of the lot of them.]]

Since when did you have fuckin' dragons?

You did not ask.

[Seeing that Dave's had all the fight in him destroyed, Grimm sits down next to Dave. He sets a gentle hand on his back, careful not to touch any wound.]

What distresses you, my child?

[itsknighttime]

[[Dave is confident that Grimm knows he's done, he's down on the ground kneeling and Dave doesn't shy away from the hand on him. He drops the rest of the way to the ground and for once is just too tired and mad and sad at once.]]

Last time, Karkat and I went home together. This time that fuckin' prick left without me.

[[Which is the nice way he talked to Karkat anyway, but he's pretty upset.]]

Oh, Dave... I am so sorry.

[Careful of his injuries, Grimm wraps Dave in the gentlest of hugs, arms and wings curling around him.]

[[The arms around him, and wings, and the horrificly comforting sound of his voice makes him lean into it, setting his head against Grimm's shoulder.]]

Yeah. Me too. 'm glad 'm here with you guys but--

[[But he wants to go home where Karkat is.]]

I just don't want to be so fuckin' mad anymore.

I am happy to soothe you in any way you require, until the day when you can be reunited with him.

[That day will come. Of that there can be no doubt.]

This is good. I hate this shit the most so it's helping.

[[Getting beaten at anything, especially a fight, even if he did or didn't try was exactly the upset he needed at himself instead of at Karkat, or things Karkat couldn't even help. He gives a soft sigh, preferring to look up instead.]]

Held out longer than I thought I would.

[[Even if he's still leaning, he makes note that:]]

You're gonna get blood on you. Someone'll think you lost the fight and I'm gonna let 'em.

I am not particularly fussed about that.

[He's secure in his badassitude no matter what anyone thinks of him.]

If you mean to discourage me from holding you, you may wish to try a different tack.

[[Alright that hadn't worked. In the least. But at least they can both be honest with each other.]]

Yeah. I meant to, but I'm kinda regretting that I tried so ignore that I said any of that shit.

[[Addition of blood or not, he brings his hands to his face and rubs them slowly over it, knocking his glasses into his hair and leaving them there above his strikingly red irises.]]

This shit sucks. I hated this place before and I really hate it now, y'know? I'm glad he's home but I'm pissed off he left. Worse, still, I know one of the two of us is going to go one day and trust me. I will know if it's me and I will be just as pissed. I'm going to write that shit down the moment I get popped back into wherever the fuck I'm going to end up and I'm going to find a way back to this shithole that doesn't include bing kidnapped and-- [[Let him breathe a moment, he forgot he needs breath to talk.]] --fuckin'.

[[He has no idea what he will do.]]

[Grimm wants to promise that he will come to Dave. He can travel worlds on his own power, it wouldn't be difficult - except that his fate is already sealed. Less than a day after he returns to Hallownest, he will die so that his child can live.]

I know you will. Let none stand in your way.

[[Dave not knowing that is his saving grace, knowing that Grimm would die going home would send him feral. For now all he wants to do is sit there, on the beach, listening to the waves and other such sounds around. Just pretend that there's no such thing as leaving when he should've never gotten attached.]]

[Maybe someday he'll tell Dave the truth. But now is definitely not the time.]

[[Dave knows he is a wholeass man who is grown as far as age is concerned, but by damn if he isn't laying his head against Grimm's shoulders and just shut his eyes.]]

[[He needs that. He definitely does. He's even thought of calling his brother from another mother but also from the same adopted father about it. They just met though so this might be a bit heavy. Heavy like his weight on Grimm's shoulder.]]
