[Then Grimmchild sees no issues with getting in his personal space and Hubert flinches back instinctively. He thankfully doesn't ready a spell or draw a knife or anything of the sort, but it does take him a moment to settle a bit.]
Ah, my apologies, I wasn't expecting...
[He trails off there, looking from Grimm to Grimmchild, somewhere between confused and genuinely a bit embarrassed. He's not trying to upset the kid???]
[Grimmchild nyahs, this time more concerned-sounding as they float back a bit. Is Hubert upset? Is he hurt? Is he too hurt to like pets?? What a terrible fate.]
No, forgive me, they are very friendly, and tend to show it through physical contact. Being as they do not speak yet...
[Also, lack of arms sort of means no waving, or handshakes.]
[Well, he can see that they don't have arms and how else are they going to express themselves? Fair enough, though he certainly wasn't expecting such actions to be aimed at him. Hopefully this child has more self-preservation than it would seem at the moment.
He relaxes a bit more and then tentatively holds out a gloved hand. If Grimmchild wants to touch, then it at least needs to be on his terms.]
I was simply startled, it isn't anything to be concerned with.
[excuse u he is a very intimidating murderer thank u]
I can see that.
[There's something genuinely fascinating about watching Grimmchild bump into his hand like that, and even though Hubert isn't one to find things cute, he really can't think of a better word to describe this.
So he doesn't talk himself out of reaching out to pet Grimmchild again, even though this is hardly the sort of thing someone like him should be doing.]
[When Hubert starts petting them, Grimmchild starts to purr. All is well in the world now.]
Indeed they are. And filled with a curiousity about the world around them. If they were not effectively immortal, I might worry about the trouble they could get into.
[Grimm won't call him on it. That might mean he'd stop making that expression.]
They have. Lunatia is far more alive than the land they come from, and they are endlessly delighted by such things as parks. And meeting as curious a species as humans, of course.
[There isn't really any reason to keep it hidden, although that always remains his default instinct. Hubert shifts a bit, turning that coffee cup to give him something to do with his hands.]
As I said, the effects haven't been nearly as bad as they are for some others.
You might have found Cordis more troubling, in my experience. The Cordis Moonblessed I know all show a marked tendency towards cuddling among their changes.
[Iris makes you horny, but is that really worse than Cordis making you cuddly...]

Grimmchild headbutts Hubert's hand gently, before settling onto the table below his hand.]
They enjoy being pet.
[Grimmchild nyahs in confirmation.]
no subject
I can see that.

They're very [cute] ...friendly.

[Seriously, kids get into so much trouble??? Damn.]
I'm sure there's much for them to discover here. Have they been settling in well?
[And don't worry, he's not stopping with the pets. His expression also might have slipped into something a little more gentle, but shhhh.]
no subject
They have. Lunatia is far more alive than the land they come from, and they are endlessly delighted by such things as parks. And meeting as curious a species as humans, of course.
no subject
That does get a smirk from him, though it's still more gentle than any of his usual expressions.]
We certainly are an odd bunch, aren't we.
no subject
What was it you wished to discuss?
[You know, before they got distracted by Baby.]
no subject
I wanted to thank you again for the information you gave me before. It's proven very useful in getting settled here.
[Although he's not actually settled but that's not the point!!]
There's still much I have to learn about this world. Much of my time has been focused on dealing with... individuals from my home.
[different routes are hell!!!!]
And it has been some time since we last spoke, so I thought it would be best to meet again.
[goddamn he is so bad at friendship]
no subject
More of the unpleasant individuals from your home than the pleasant ones have arrived?
[He's very fortunate that he either knows the canonmates here or can get along with them because of shared friends and family.]
no subject
[...]
Though I will admit I am biased against many of them.
[They could be perfectly acceptable individuals but war is hell and most of them are his enemies so ehhh.]
no subject
[is he hip with the kids' lingo now]
no subject
Very true.
At the very least, our quarrel back home doesn't seem to be something any of them are interested in pursuing here.
[For now. He's not entirely sure that's how things will remain, but many of them got him gifts??? He hates it.]
no subject
[Speaking of one particular recurring trouble:]
How have the moons treated you?
no subject
I've been lucky enough not to deal with any major changes, though it certainly hasn't been an easy adjustment.
[...is that even an answer???]
no subject
Which moon are you afflicted by?
no subject

As I said, the effects haven't been nearly as bad as they are for some others.

[They would be charming on Hubert too!]
I am glad to hear that your suffering is not overmuch.
no subject
It isn't, certainly not when compared to what I've heard most people end up dealing with.
[...]
How have you been with regards to... [handwave] that.
no subject
[And that's all Hubert really wants to hear about that, absolutely no further details.]
no subject
At least it's manageable. I'm thankful I didn't end up with that moonblessing.
[can you imagine this man asking for help with that because hahahahaha no.]
no subject
[Iris makes you horny, but is that really worse than Cordis making you cuddly...]
no subject
[given this reaction, you are exactly right.]
I suppose I'm more fortunate than I realized to have this particular moonblessing.
