[It's an awful story of a family torn apart by circumstances outside of anyone's control. A sad story made sadder by the way Danny says 'it wasn't that bad'.]

Ha... yeah, they are. Or at least they're supposed to be, last I checked.

[He wouldn't actually know though, given his "friends" back home were people like... Cathy... before he started having actual good friends here.]

[Oh my god--Danny can't help but shove Grimm lightly here at that godawful line, but it's not out of malice, rather disbelief.]

I can't believe you actually said that just now.

If I can ease your burden any by listening, I would gladly do so.

[He only wishes he could do more.]

[Danny smiles a little less forced as, after a moment, he slides his hand on top of Grimm's hand that had grabbed his other hand.]

Okay, enough of that depressing talk, tell me about you. How have you been since we last spoke?

I have been well. My child is quite pleased that the temperatures are warming up.

[Not a big fan of winter in this house.]

Ah, is that so? That's good... what about you? Have you been able to stay warm during these last few months?

[hagrides]

I am not one to complain. [Unlike The Baby.] But a return to warmer temperatures is much appreciated for myself as well.

[doctorize]

Mm... I can't say I really mind either way.

[Given... how many layers Danny wears normally.]

But I suppose it'll mean that there will be more flowers in bloom to see soon, so there is that to look forward to.

Lunatia shall be a lovely sight indeed.

[Definitely going to get Danny a nice bouquet.]

Perhaps we'll have to take a walk sometime to see it once spring properly arrives... either before or after our previously arranged dinner date once my arm is no longer injured.

[Not that he couldn't walk even with it, but he definitely prefers not being alone if in public, where he could tire out and may or may not need assistance in some manner.]

A moonlight stroll sounds wonderful, my friend. I very much look forward to it, and to your rapid recovery.

[Even if they had no plans, he would still hope for Danny's arm to heal quickly and painlessly.]

It seems we have been talking for a while now--are you sure you don't need anything to drink, or even something to eat? I'm sure I've got something edible in the kitchen somewhere.

Danny looks like he's about to object, but then he reconsiders.]

Well... in that case, maybe just something to drink for now? Water, or coffee maybe if there's any left.

[Please don't get him coffee, Danny doesn't need more caffeine when he should be trying to rest more with his injury.]

[You do not need coffee, young man. Grimm ducks into the kitchen to pour two glasses of water.]

... Okay. Thank you, Grimm.

[Good on you for not enabling his caffeine addiction.

The water definitely helps though once Grimm gets back as Danny didn't realize just how thirsty he actually was until the water was in his hands. He really should be more attentive about that sort of thing, but since when did Danny care about his own needs am I right.]

Grimm takes a seat next to Danny, sipping his own water.]

Of course. It is the least I can do for a friend.

[Danny has already drained half of his water in the moment it was handed to him, but upon hearing Gray's words, there's a moment where he stares into his glass rather contemplative before he smiles. One that actually leans more genuine than his usual fake smiles.]

I'm glad to hear that... to be honest, and maybe I'm just feeling weirdly sentimental, but I kind of wish that you had been in my world. Things might have been different if I had a friend like you there.

[Because his "friends" back home were fellow serial killers who you can't trust as far as you can throw them. Having an actual friend could have possibly prevented a lot of trouble, really.]
